They Claim To Represent Conservatives

Every day I get letters or emails from several self-avowed ‘conservative’ organizations. There are dozens and dozens out there all claiming to represent the ‘Christian-conservative-Constitutional’ cause. Most of them are doing something good, or standing against something bad, yet over and over I find myself disappointed and feeling betrayed.

Take for instance an organization that I recently found myself compelled to confront for Continue reading “They Claim To Represent Conservatives”

The Spirit Of Partisan Politics

The subject of partisan politics recently crossed my path – not just the fact that partisan politics exists (something we’re all well aware of), but rather the dangers that it holds, its subtle nature and the extent to which it has crept into our thought process. Having been politically active for nearly two decades now, more than half that time spent in positions of leadership in both my county, state and national party, it seems I would have already learned this lesson. How Low Will We Go?

For several decades now, with each passing election cycle, conservatives find themselves called upon to lower their standards and vote for candidates who constitute a new low in a ‘less than Christian’ and ‘less than Constitutional’ standard. Conservatives are told they have no choice; that if they don’t vote for the Republican the Democrat will win; that in order to defeat the liberal, they must elect a neocon now and hope to somehow “hold his Continue reading “How Low Will We Go?”

Leading Without A Compass

I recently ran across a bit of information that at first confused me; then frustrated me; then made me question; then it made a light come on; then it brought my view of our so called ‘conservative’ Republican leaders in Congress to a new low.

Some years back, I ran across the Freedom Index published by the John Birch Society. The index is published once every 6 months and tracks key bills in Congress and the votes of each member of Congress on those bills. Votes are scrutinized for adherence to the U.S. Constitution, sound fiscal policy and a traditional foreign policy of avoiding ‘entangling alliances.’ Members of Congress are then rated from 0% to 100% for adherence to this standard. It’s Here! It’s Here! The New Republican Pledge to America is Here!

(a critical review from a Constitutional perspective)

So does the Republican’s new “Pledge to America” make you want to jump for joy, run up and down and shout? Well that’s what it’s supposed to do – at least that’s the effect the Republicans are hoping it will have on conservatives. However, it doesn’t really affect me that way, but then I’m not a conservative. I’m a Christian and a Constitutionalist and I just can’t quite buy into the Republican’s attempt to repackage and sell themselves to the Continue reading “It’s Here! It’s Here! Just Say NO! To a Constitutional Convention

I recently received (for the third time I believe) an email that’s making the rounds that calls for a proposed 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The main point of the message, and the proposed amendment, is to make Congress live by the same laws they make us live by – a laudable goal. However, the message calls for a “Constitutional Convention” to implement this proposal – this I must warn against. Continue reading “Just Say NO! To a Constitutional Convention”

Why Support the Establishment Media?

So I just have to ask, why are any self identified conservatives, Christians, Constitutionalists, those possessing critical thinking skills, or any other lifeforms claiming intelligence or demonstrating a lick of common sense, still supporting the “Establishment Media”? For a long time, conservative types have decried the so called “liberal news media”, but they keep on watching the 6 o’clock news and buying newspapers and thereby Continue reading “Why Support the Establishment Media?”

The Dino Rossi Question

A friend recently asked me for my take on the U.S. Senate race and the ‘Dino Rossi question.’ They asked “Are the Republicans supporting Rossi?? Who should we be supporting?” In asking “are the Republicans supporting Rossi?” I am confident they were referring to the state Republican Party, or more precisely, the party’s leadership and the establishment power structure within the party. It is quite apparent to me “the Continue reading “The Dino Rossi Question”

Keep On Doing The Same

An off the cuff email reply to a friend that ended up getting forwarded, then published in eastern Washington’s Palouse Patriot – Thanks Rick!

I find it interesting that over and over I hear ‘conservative’ Republicans saying that a third choice on the ballot is a bad thing, will split the vote, foul up the whole balance of power, dilute the system, etc. But aren’t these the same conservatives who tout free market economic solutions, saying that freedom of choice in the market place will encourage competition, more choice, better products, etc. as producers compete for their market Continue reading “Keep On Doing The Same”

We Need a Standard

As the 2010 election cycle gets set in motion, I’m hearing Christian-conservative-Constitutional-and liberty-minded people beginning to discuss candidates. They are looking to see which announced candidate will become the ‘favored son’ that their group, organization or social circle will invest their time, money and effort in hoping him to be the one who will carry the banner for their cause and deliver them from the dreaded liberals.
