Conspiracy Theories and the Symphony of Destruction

If you believe every conspiracy theory that comes along, you’ll end up paranoid and delusional. On the other hand, if you don’t see a reason to think a conspiracy of evil is afoot, then you’re not paying attention. Learn to discern what’s edifying versus theories and fables that are a trap designed to suck you down a rabbit hole. There is a conspiracy to lead humanity in a symphony of destruction, but we don’t have to dance to that tune.

OUTLINE

This is not a typical sermon topic. However, there is a spiritual point to be made.

I’ve pondered and prayed about this subject for many years and what I have come to understand about it has enriched me. I believe it will benefit you as well.

Jesus and the Jews – What’s the Beef?

We read the Old Testament and find the Jews as the good guys of that story, then we turn the page to the New Testament and find Jesus as the good guy of that story. But if they’re both the good guys of the Bible, then why do we find them in constant conflict throughout the gospels? Discover why Jesus called the Jewish religious leaders hypocrites and why they opposed him and ultimately killed him. You’ll gain a new appreciation for the gospel stories and learn not to repeat the mistakes of the Jews.

The Other Christmas Story

A few years ago while visiting family for the holidays, I was asked to share something at our gathering, like maybe reading the Christmas story, you know, the one depicted in every church play and recited by Linus in A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Now maybe it’s just because I’m a guy, or I might have watched too many episodes of Tim the Toolman Taylor souping things up because he wanted “More Power,” but I don’t get stoked over babies, shepherds, and cattle lowing in a manger. Don’t get me wrong, I believe that story and I’m all for it, and cardboard angel wings strapped to a kid for a play are cute, but I’m looking for something more, like a supernatural reality with the power to change things.

While praying about what to share, the Lord brought John chapter 1 to mind and showed me that it’s “the other Christmas story.” It’s the same story viewed from a different perspective.

Exposing Satan’s Tactics – He’s a Liar and a Con

2 Corinthians 2:11 “lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.”

I once had the benefit of spending a few years of my life in the world around worldly, lying, deceiving, manipulating, sceaming, scamming, con artist type people. I call it a benefit not because there was anything good about it but because later in life, as I grew in spiritual understanding, the Lord used those experiences as an object lesson for exposing Satan’s mode of operation.

Jesus taught us that Satan’s progeny will unavoidably manifest his own attributes.

John 8:44 “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”

Following the Maker’s Design

Part 5 in the series “Knowing the Truth About Sin Will Set You Free”

In previous lessons on “Knowing the Truth About Sin,” Elder Bob Peck has taught us that we are forgiven of sin, that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ, and that the Old Testament law system has been abolished. If you have understood those lessons correctly, it should leave you asking “Then why not sin?” If your only goal is to miss hell and make heaven, then abstinence from sin is no longer required. On the other hand, if you want to prosper and have success in this life, then observing and following your maker’s design for your life is essential to avoiding a breakdown that leaves you stranded on the side of the road of life.

Review

  1. In Part 1 we learned that Christ offered one sacrifice (Hebrews 10:12) that so thoroughly atoned for all sins forever that there is no longer anything that can condemn anyone who is in Christ (Romans 8:1).
  2. In Part 2 we learned that the old covenant has been made obsolete (Hebrews 8:13), it’s handwriting wiped out when God nailed it to the cross of Christ (Colossians 2:14). For those in Christ, there is no longer a performance-based system of dos and don’ts to be judged by or condemned under.
  3. In Part 3 we learned that for the New Testament believer, sin is no longer the state of being without a share in the divine nature. For the New Testament believer, sin is no longer the act of violating the rules of a performance-based system. For the New Testament believer, sin is the act of missing the mark and there’s no law against that and therefore no condemnation for it.
