A Satisfied Mouth – Another Look at the Word of Faith Message

A funny thing happens once we know something: over time, we forget parts of it and get dull. Without realizing it, we end up practicing only half the teaching, then wondering why it isn’t working. From time to time, we need a refresher.

The word of faith message was not invented just to get us healed, blessed, and maybe have a new car. God wants our mouth to be filled with every good thing authorized by His word until it creates an atmosphere of blessing and renewing in our lives that overflows to the world around us.

OUTLINE

Psalm 103:5  Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

This is not about confessing the renewing of youth, but about a mouth filled with so many good things that youth is renewed as a byproduct.

A Review of the Word of Faith Doctrine

Concise description of the Word of Faith doctrine: Hear God’s word, believe it in your heart, confess it with your mouth, have what you say.

Mark 11:23  For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

Romans 10:8-10  But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART” (that is, the word of faith which we preach):

9  that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

10  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

2 Corinthians 4:13  And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I BELIEVED AND THEREFORE I SPOKE,” we also believe and therefore speak,

  • Didn’t start with Kenneth Hagin.
  • Paul preached the Word of Faith.
  • Jesus taught the Word of Faith.
  • Abraham practiced the Word of Faith – God promised a son, Abraham believed, Abraham accepted his name change, and began calling himself “father of a multitude.”

God Operates by the Word of Faith

The Word of Faith principles were not invented in the 1960 by Kenneth Hagin, nor in Mark 11:23.

Genesis 1:1  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

  • Verse 3  Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
  • Verse 6  Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.”
  • Verse 9  Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so.

Hebrews 11:1  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:3  By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

John 1:1-3  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2  He was in the beginning with God.

3  All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

When Jesus said in Mark 11:23 to say, not doubt, believe, and you will have what you say, he was speaking from experience as an eye witness to how the Father framed the worlds.

Man is Made to Operate Like God

Genesis 1:26  Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

Hebrew lexicon: demûth – likeness, similitude.

Dictionary: Likeness: “the quality or state of being like.” / Similitude: “counterpart, double.”

God made man like himself so that man can interact with God in the things He acts in, including the ability to use words and faith.

God gave man dominion over a word/faith created system and charged him with subduing it under God’s blessing using words and faith as God’s counterpart, or double in the earth.

ALimit on the Wordof Faith

God’s word is the limit on the Word of Faith system.

Romans 10:17  So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

The word of a king is law. Everything outside the word of the king is outside the law. Faith will not go outside the law of God’s word to give substance to things He has not authorized.

However, there is a lawless one who will entice you to use your words to authorize his lawless deeds of sin, sickness, poverty, and death.

We’ve Limited the Word of Faith Message

It is proper and correct to run into a need, go to the Word, find a promise that covers the need, then speak those promises as words of prayer and words of faith. That’s the right thing to do.

However, there’s more to the Word of Faith.

Psalm 103:5 does not say our youth will be renewed by confessing that as a promise. It says our youth will be renewed as a byproduct of having our mouth filled with “good things,” plural.

What good things does God want to satisfy our mouth with?

Matthew 4:4  But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE, BUT BY EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS FROM THE MOUTH OF GOD.’ ”

As God’s counterparts in the earth, given dominion to steward over His creation, He wants our hearts and mouths filled with the Spirit and life found in every word that proceeds from the mouth of God until it creates an atmosphere in and around us of life, peace, blessing, goodness, power, favor, and prospering, to the point that renewing of youth, and every other good thing, springs forth as a byproduct.

God wants our mouth satisfied with every good thing and only good things all the time, speaking only what is agreeable to and conforming to His nature, character, and Spirit, framing our world with blessing, life, light, faith, hope, healing, prospering, and every good thing.

What About Everyday Words?

Matthew 12:36-37  But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.

37  For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Every word we speak authorizes the good that God wants or the evil that Satan wants. All human communication tends toward life or death.

Proverbs 18:21  Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Examples

  • I’m afraid that… – or – I fear not, the Lord is my deliverer.
  • The economy is going down the tubes – or – my God shall supply all my needs.
  • Speaking ill of politicians – or – speaking mercy for them to yet repent before God judges.
  • The world is going to hell – or – God’s kingdom is coming, and His will will be done.

Proverbs 10:19  In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise.

God wants our mouth satisfied with every good thing and only good things all the time, speaking only what is agreeable to and conforming to His nature, character, and Spirit, framing our world with blessing, life, light, faith, hope, healing, prospering, and every good thing.

Be a Pure Spring

James 3:9-11  With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.

10  Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

11  Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?

We speak everyday words that dilute and pollute the stream we drink from.

God framed the worlds with words; we frame our world with words every day.

God wants our mouth satisfied with every good thing and only good things all the time, speaking only what is agreeable to and conforming to His nature, character, and Spirit, framing our world with blessing, life, light, faith, hope, healing, prospering, and every good thing.

Making the Father at Home

John 14:23  Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

If we love Jesus, who is the Word made flesh, we will keep his words in our heart and speak words out of our mouth that create an atmosphere that he and the Father will be at home in.

If we create an atmosphere that the Father is at home in, His presence will renew our youth without the need for any special confession.

God wants our mouth satisfied with every good thing and only good things all the time, speaking only what is agreeable to and conforming to His nature, character, and Spirit, framing our world with blessing, life, light, faith, hope, healing, prospering, and every good thing.

Proverbs 10:11  The mouth of the righteous is a well of life…
